Three days to feel the altitude. Fly into Mérida or drive up from El Vigía, sleep in a posada in the historic center, ride Mukumbarí — the world's highest and longest cable car — up to Pico Espejo at 4,765 m, then descend for trout, andean cheese, and the famous heladería with 900-plus flavors. Day three is a slow loop through Jají's colonial plaza and the Mucuy páramo. Altitude is real: build in afternoon downtime on day one. Mukumbarí runs in segments and is weather-dependent — buy tickets the day before.
Best months: Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar.
