The deep version of Venezuela's Guayana wilderness. Fly into Puerto Ordaz, drive south to Santa Elena de Uairén, then up the road through Gran Sabana with stops at Salto Aponguao, Quebrada de Jaspe, and Roraima base. Connect into Canaima for two nights of Angel Falls. Sector Oriental of Canaima is regulated by Decreto Nº 1.640 (1991); Inparques permits are arranged by Pemón-affiliated operators. Long days, lots of road, but the savannas — punctuated by sandstone tepuis 2,000–2,800 m tall — are unlike anywhere else.
Caveat: Gran Sabana and Canaima are both inside PN Canaima (UNESCO Site 701). Pemón-affiliated guide and Inparques permit are mandatory. Carry cash — no ATMs. Driving in Gran Sabana requires a 4×4; do not self-drive without local guidance.
