A short, beautiful run through Venezuela's flagship marine park. Fly in from Caracas (35 min), settle in a posada on Gran Roque, then alternate a "close" cayo (Francisqui) with a "far" cayo (Cayo de Agua) and finish on the reefs around Crasqui. Los Roques is a 1972 national park and a Ramsar wetland — bring reef-safe sunscreen, leave nothing, and book peneros through your posada (the captains coordinate as a co-op). Three days is enough for one trip; five if you can. Cash is king on the archipelago.
Best months: Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, Jul, Aug.
