Five days is the right amount of time for PN Morrocoy — Venezuela's 32,090-ha mangrove-and-cay system on the Falcón coast. Split nights between Chichiriviche (north access) and Tucacas (south access) so you can hit different cays each day: Sombrero, Borracho, Sal, Pelón, Muerto. Add a half-day at the Cuare Refuge — Venezuela's first Ramsar site (1988) — for flamingos and scarlet ibis. Cheaper than Los Roques, reachable by road, almost as beautiful in the right cay on the right day.
Best months: Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Jul, Aug.
