Mérida’s great Carnival-season fair — the Feria del Sol, or Ferisol, brings bullfights, music and days of celebration to the heart of the Venezuelan Andes.
The Feria Internacional del Sol — Ferisol to Meridians — is the signature fair of the Venezuelan Andes, staged in Mérida around the Carnival season. It is best known nationally for its bullfighting season, but the feria is far broader: concerts, parades, the election of its queen, gastronomy and a city given over to celebration.
The 55th edition ran from January 31 to February 28, 2026, with the bullfights over the Carnival weekend of February 14–16. Because it is tied to the movable Carnival calendar, the exact dates shift year to year.
For visitors, the feria pairs naturally with everything else Mérida offers — the mountains, the páramo, the cable car and the Andean towns around the city — making it a strong anchor for a wider highland trip.
