Venezuela's geography is an adventure sport atlas: a Caribbean coast for kite surfers, Andean thermals for paragliders, ancient tepui summits for trekkers, and river systems that range from Class II floats to Class V white-water. Most of it is remarkably uncrowded — world-class terrain without the queues.
Mérida is the undisputed adventure capital. The cable car launch sites above the city produce thermals that draw paragliding pilots from across South America, and the surrounding valleys offer white-water rafting, via ferrata, canyoning, and multi-day horse treks. Guides are experienced and locally certified.
For serious mountaineers, Pico Bolívar (4,978 m) presents a technical challenge — the final approach crosses an exposed rocky ridge. Roraima in the Gran Sabana is a six-day round trip to the summit of the world's oldest plateau, a genuinely other-worldly landscape that justifies the effort entirely.
