The road south from El Dorado climbs La Escalera onto the Gran Sabana, a savanna of ancient tabletop mountains. The Pantepui endemics here evolved in isolation on the tepui summits and slopes — you cannot see them anywhere else in the world. This is a guided-first route: charter flights serve Canaima, and Roraima is a multi-day trek. Base yourself at a Canaima posada and work the escarpment with a local guide.
